When PROSET Modular needed a partner capable of executing a challenging modular building installation at Colorado’s Telluride Ski Resort, they turned to TAKKION’s crane division for a safe and reliable heavy-lift solution.
PROSET Modular is a National Installation Company. Having previously partnered with TAKKION on successful projects in Durango and Jackson, PROSET knew the team had the experience and problem-solving mindset required for a complex mountain construction project.
The Telluride project involved installing six large modular condominium units near the top of the ski resort. Each prefabricated module measured approximately 14 feet wide, 60 feet long, and 12 feet tall, weighing nearly 42,000 pounds. The modules needed to be lifted from delivery trucks and precisely placed at a 155-foot working radius on a steep mountainside construction site.
The project presented significant challenges before the first lift ever took place.

Another crane contractor had initially been selected for the project but ultimately determined the installation could not be completed safely using their proposed approach.PROSET Modular then contacted TAKKION to evaluate the site and develop an alternative plan.
After conducting a detailed site assessment, TAKKION developed a customized lifting strategy utilizing a 500-ton all-terrain crane. The operation required transporting the crane more than 500 miles through mountain terrain and over multiple high-elevation passes before reaching Telluride.
Once onsite, the challenges continued. The crane had to be positioned and assembled on a 12% grade near the summit of the ski resort. Through detailed lift planning and innovative problem-solving, the TAKKION team safely positioned the crane using a specialized trailer system that allowed the equipment to be leveled before assembly. Crews then installed 147 feet of jib, preparing the crane for the modular lifts.
Weather conditions added another layer of complexity. Shortly after mobilization, a spring snowstorm delayed operations, demonstrating the unpredictable conditions often associated with mountain construction projects. Despite the setback, the team maintained the project schedule and completed all required lifting operations safely and efficiently.

Over four days of lifting, TAKKION completed 18 critical heavy lifts, successfully placing all six modular units. From mobilization to demobilization, the entire project was completed in just over a week.
The Telluride modular construction project highlights TAKKION’s expertise in heavy lift crane services, complex lift planning, modular building installation, and mountain construction support. More importantly, it demonstrates the value of long-term partnerships built on trust, performance, and delivering solutions when others believe a project cannot be completed.
Following the successful completion of the Telluride project, PROSET Modular awarded TAKKION multiple additional projects throughout Colorado, further strengthening a relationship built on safety, innovation, and results.
When complex construction projects require creative solutions, TAKKION delivers the expertise, equipment, and experience to get the job done safely and successfully.
